Well timed removal or shaping of baby teeth can often facilitate eruption of permanent teeth. Space left when teeth are missing can be closed with braces. Space can sometimes be opened to permit tooth eruption when there is crowding. The shape of the jaws can sometimes be modified to alleviate crowding. Space maintainers can prevent space loss.

Next, we shape fractured and poorly contoured areas. The tooth is bonded with white translucent materials selected for color, strength and decay prevention. The tooth is then shaped along with adjacent teeth to achieve the optimal esthetic result. Broken teeth are renewed. Ugly stains are replaced with shiny tooth colored surfaces. Gaps are closed and misshaped teeth are made to look normal. Some teeth are bleached to get the best color.
Children with orthodontic problems are evaluated and treated early to give them the best smile and appearance possible. The evaluation begins with a standardized set of x-rays, photographs and plaster models of the mouth. The records will be processed over about a month’s time. You will then be invited for a consultation with Dr. Guy. At that time he will discuss the problems, options for treatment, time frame for treatment, costs and payment system. You can then make an informed decision about correcting your child’s orthodontic problems. Remember: younger children often benefit from orthopedic correction of the shape of their jaws. Older children are best treated with braces to align their teeth. Both types of services are offered.
A space maintainer device prevents space loss when deciduous molar teeth are prematurely lost. A properly designed and cared for space maintainer can be a great blessing to your child. It often saves the trouble and expense later of braces and/or loss of permanent teeth due to crowding. The device consists of a metal band for the tooth behind the space and a wire soldered to the band that prevents forward shifting of the banded tooth.
